Look at the Fun we had at the Boston Marathon!

What he did – It was a cool morning for the Boston Marathon. Stephen was up and out the door by 5:45 in order to get on the T and get on the charter bus to the start line.

What I did – Since I was training for a half marathon, I got up and did a 7 mile “long run” from our place along the Charles River Esplanades. Here are some of the sites:

After the run, I grabbed the T and headed toward Brookline to cheer for my favorite runner.

Here he is at mile 24 – still going strong. I was really proud of his effort, especially considering he was still dealing with the “long covid” effects from December.

Runner tip – His tip for that day was “Running is stupid. Don’t do it.” I’m sure his opinion has changed by now.

We both dashed off to the finish line meeting spot at Arlington and Boylston. He beat me there, obvi!

Where we ate & drank – Off to Cheers where we sat at the “Set Bar” upstairs and enjoyed a masterful turkey club, fries and clam chowder. The beer was something local, but I couldn’t quite remember what it was. It went down nice and easy though!

We enjoyed talking to the locals who come out to cheer and to the other runners who made their way in. I sat at Frasier Crane’s spot but I suspect he didn’t mind.

Cheapskate tip – This place might be touristy but on Patriots Day, I can’t image a better place to be. The prices are reasonable and the servings are ample.

Oysters at the Union Oyster Bar
The best oysters in Boston!

Back to the room for a shower and a rest then off to the Union Oyster House again. This time…for some magnificent oysters and lobster ravioli.

We sat at the bar and talked running with every athlete who came in and then headed home for a well deserved rest. Check out our next day in Boston – FENWAY DAY!
