Is Alcatraz Really the Most Haunted Place in America?

San Francisco Bay is BEAUTIFUL. There is just something special about the blue of the bay and the deep orange of the bridge. This leads to an important question. Why build a prison here? Was it just for the extra cruelty of making the inmates look at it and know they could never cross it? What does it do to a person – being locked up on a cold rock in the middle of paradise? Join us as we unpack our bags in San Francisco and attempt find out the answer to this question: is Alcatraz REALLY the most haunted place in America? The History Originally created as a fort,…

Some Dark History Built Over an Old Cemetery

You know the trope. Weird things happen. People behave in ways they NEVER would ordinarily. And then it’s discovered. The house was built over an old cemetery!! ~Bum, bum, bummmmmm.~ (That’s the scary reveal music, FYI.) This week I got visit the Chicago History Museum. If you’re into some dark history, built over an old cemetery, this one’s for you! (However if this isn’t your jam, check out our Ferris Bueller-like tour of the Chicago Art Museum instead.) About The Museum The museum began back in 1856, just 19 years after Chicago became a city. It was relocated to this spot after the Great Fire of 1871. (You can read…

    Get Your Ghost On

While at the airport lounge in Detroit, or “my favorite haunt”, I got an unexpected email. Seems someone came across our “How to Spend the Perfect Day in Boston” article. And they wondered if we’d like to take a tour to write about our experience. I KNOW! I told everyone in the bar area all about it and they were SO excited too! (Looking back, it may have been more “AMUSEMENT” then excitement. Sort of like when you’re at a 4 year old’s birthday party and they open THE toy they’ve been wanting ALL THEIR LIFE.) But never the less, I responded immediately and checked my email ALL weekend for…

    Come Play with Us, Danny

Happy October, everyone! I am SOOOO excited to share with you some new spooky adventures for the BEST season of the year. This week, let’s go all the way to Estes Park, Colorado for a look at the Overlook – I mean, the Stanley Hotel. Come play with us, Danny. This one’s going to be a hoot! On the Road to the Overlook Leaving Boulder for Estes Park, I expected to have that “impending feeling of dread” that Stanley Kubrick’s film portrayed. You know, driving in the middle of nowhere – sort of feeling like you were on your way to a dinner party with the Donners. However, the road…

Stephen is working to becoming a legacy runner for the Boston Marathon which means we are planning to go back…

To Dance a Small Jig on the Grave of Henry the VIII

Although I’d already had the amazing opportunity to visit Windsor castle twice before, this time was really something special. You see, the first two times I visited, I was with my life long friend, Jules. And our main occupation while taking in the sights was 1. trying to get guardsmen to break their stoic demeanor and 2. to catch up on all the news from the last time we spoke. This time, sans best GF, I was REALLY able to admire the ancestral home of the Windsor’s. And more importantly, to dance a small jig on the grave of Henry the VIII. How DID we get so lucky? You may…

What if Hogwarts Also Had Dinosaurs?

Some months ago we found out that our dear friend, Julie, would be running the London marathon to celebrate a milestone birthday. Since a quarter of a century is SUCH a big deal, we decided to join her in a little trip over the pond. And since Stephen enjoys running a race every now and then, he decided to join her in the run. So how about me? What did I decide to join in on? Well what if I told you there is a museum in London that looks like the school from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? That’s right, while we were there, we got to answer…

The Ferry and The Pub Crawl

One perfect day this March, we met up with our favorite Scotsman. The N.Y.C. Half marathon behind him, Stephen was ready for some relaxation and maybe an adult beverage or two. Our friend, Martin, had just the thing. We’d take the ferry and do the Williamsburg to Long Island City pub crawl. If you like fun places and craft brews, hang with us because we’ve got a story for you! The 10am Ferry…What a View!! Our friend has lived in and around NYC for years now. And like us, he really enjoys getting out and taking in the sites. Back when he lived downtown, he would sometimes take the ferry…

The moments you remember the most might surprise you

We took our youngest daughter and her best friend on a trip to celebrate their graduating high school with honors. The ladies decided they wanted to experience London, Paris and Rome. As we built our itinerary, we made sure to hit all of the famous tourist spots. When we look back on our trip now, the things we saw aren’t really the things we reminisce about. This taught us a valuable lesson – when it comes to travel, the moments you remember the most might surprise you! Join us as we share the highlights of our European World tour and the lessons this trip taught us. London – 2 days…

    United Airlines NYC Half Recap

I don’t run many half marathons and I certainly don’t race many but I was fortunate enough to snag a bib in the lottery for this year’s United Airline NYC Half this past weekend. I figured it would be a good tune up and a test of my fitness heading into this year’s Boston Marathon. The Goal My primary goal for the race was to run a hard effort and to challenge myself on the hills. I haven’t been a very strong runner on hills in the past and have incorporated more hill work and strength training to try and fix that. The course profile offered me a great opportunity to…
