Driving the Snakes Out of South Boston
An amazing thing happened last October. We looked ahead at our calendar for March and realized we had the weekend of St. Patty’s day free. We had no running obligations, work obligations, or family obligations. That’s right, we were so free, we were practically footloose. What better time could there be for seeing the Dropkick Murphys, drinking some Guinness and for driving the snakes out of South Boston! (I’ll be honest, I don’t really know what that last part means. It’s just sort of a nod to lore around St. Pat and it made for a catchy headline. For the sake of this article, let’s just say it means drinking beer.) With that in mind, grab some green and join us for some shamrocks and shenanigans in Boston!
Leavin’ on a Jet Plane
We flew out via Delta, as is our custom. And the flight was at 7am, which is also our custom. Stephen had donned his green and was ready to go. I had donned my green and desperately needed coffee.
Stephen likes to sit by the window to take in the views. On this particular trip, he was greeted by a very interesting light display. From what we’ve heard, these are lights from grow houses! Groovy, baby.
Staying at the Cambria
Our first stop was the Cambria Hotel in South Boston. It was a newer hotel and had a great “writing” vibe. Check out their café and the art on the walls.
Spying the Masters at Harvard
We then headed to the Hahvahd Yahd (Harvard Yard) to enjoy free art at the Fogg Art Museum. We read that they had some works by major artists. What we didn’t know is that the museum would be FULL of works by these artists. We LOVED it so much, we wrote about it as a hidden gem and something you should do when you’re in town.
Live Music, Great Brews, Good Food
That evening, we went to Sam Adams Tap Room to enjoy some live music, frothy brews and excellent eats. The band was so fun, I think we stayed until they sent us home. (I’ll be honest, this isn’t the first time we’ve been the last ones out!)
Always Leave them Wanting More
We enjoyed the cool weather, while we walked back to the nearest train stop. The last sight of the night was this enormous white whale. Rather than rush you through the rest of the trip, let’s stop here and pick up next week for some chowda, brews and other shenanigan’s.
