FlyKitt – The Magic Bullet for Jet Lag

Anyone who has followed us for a while knows that jet lag kicks my butt. When we traveled to Japan it took me about five days before I got a good night sleep. It didn’t keep me from enjoying myself but it definitely would have been better had I arrived in Tokyo well rested.  With a big trip planned to Australia this summer to run the Sydney Marathon, the concern about jet lag had been weighing on me quite a bit.  But not anymore!! With Flykitt – we just might have the magic bullet for jet lag.

The Inside Scoop

Before our recent trip to London for the London Marathon, a fellow Sky Miles Life friend mentioned something called FlyKitt. All they told me was that they used it for international travel and arrived feeling fresh and ready to go.

I did a little research into FlyKitt and found this article in Outside Magazine https://www.outsideonline.com/adventure-travel/advice/flykitt-jet-lag/. Click on the link to read all the details about who developed it and how it was developed.

How It Works

The basic premise of Flykitt’s app and patented supplement packs is that it helps sync your circadian rhythm to your new time zone while you fly — so you can enjoy your trip from the moment you arrive.

Setting it Up

Using FlyKitt was super easy. First thing I did was download the app and enter my flight data. It asked some basic questions about my sleep schedule and then produced a program for me to arrive at my destination ready to hit the ground running. One great thing about the app is that if you have flight changes (which we did) the necessary adjustments were made without me having to do anything.

Reminders Along the Way

The app alerted us thought our journey when we were supposed to eat, sleep, take supplements, and wear the Blue Light Filtering Glasses. I was concerned being a glasses wearer that this would be an issue but I had no problem wearing them over my regular glasses.

Challenges We Encountered

The only challenge I had with the program was sleeping on the plane when the app told me it was time to sleep (I never sleep well on planes). While I didn’t sleep the whole time it told me to I did wear a sleep mask and listen to some meditation music so I was at least resting as much as possible.

The London Arrival

The London arrival

When we arrived in London after an overnight flight I was a bit fatigued (due to not sleeping as much as I should have on the plane) but stayed with the plan and kept taking the supplements. We had a pretty full first day in London and I almost fell asleep that evening at the theatre but managed to make it thru the day.

The Data (Especially for Athletes)

I track my sleep and other metrics all the time and when I travel they are usually crap. My sleep score is awful. My resting heart rate is elevated. My body battery barely goes up. When I woke up on day two I was pleasantly surprised. All of my numbers were in line with where they would be if I were at home. This is when I realized that FlyKitt was something I couldn’t afford to travel without.

I had the same experience on our return trip from London. It was such a relief to get home and not lose a few days trying to adjust to the time change.

The Cost

The FlyKitt Starter Pack includes travel case, light-blocking glasses, supplements, and custom travel plans for a round trip journey. It costs $99 and from my experience it is a bargain. Additional round trip refills of supplements cost only $69.
