New York 2022 – Day 4 (The Intrepid and the hike)
We were up early and ready for our last day in NYC. First stop, a proper breakfast at the Brooklyn Diner Cafe in midtown. This diner was swanky, cozy and tasty…which meant the menu was pricey! Stephen and I ate while momma had a hot chocolate. Total price…around $75! But they do give you mouthwash in the bathroom, so there’s that!
We then strolled through Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen to get to the Intrepid Museum, our next stop on our best of NYC tour. Stephen was so happy to find a black and white cookie – an absolute MUST for any trip to the Big Apple.
Cheapskate tip – Active duty and veterans get free admission to the museum while children and seniors get a discount. I, however, had to pay full price and it was well worth it.
First we toured the USS Growler – a submarine permanently moored next to the Intrepid. In order to enter, you must first pass through a portal door to prove you’re agile enough to go inside.
Next we went to the Space Shuttle Pavilion to see the very impressive, Enterprise. If you’ve never seen a Space Shuttle in person, you’d be surprised at how large it is. We then toured the flight deck and the Intrepid Experience museum inside the carrier.
With our flight time looming ahead of us, we set off to show momma the best of everything from the aircraft carrier to our hotel downtown. On our journey, we visited the Vessel. We walked the High Line. We visited the newly created Little Island Park and went through Chelsea Market.
By this time, we had walked at least 5 miles and were ready for a rest and some refreshment.
Where we ate and drank – Just a few blocks from Chelsea Market, we found our way to a cozy café called Jack’s Wife Freda which offers a nifty Mediterranean fusion with a Parisian Café vibe. Stephen had a chicken kabob with cucumber salad and couscous while I had an amazing tuna salad with a glass of their signature Rose’.
Since no trip is complete without ice cream, our last stop for the day was at our favorite ice cream place, Ample Hills Creamery. To date, no other ice cream even comes close. But we will keep trying different places because…you never know!
We saw so many great places in New York. Check out our Highlight Reel for our top picks for the best place to eat, the best place to drink, what to do and more!
