Our Last Chance to Hit it Big

This week we’re going to unpack our last two days in “Sin City” for Connor’s 21st birthday. In case you missed it:

And this week, let’s talk about how we did with our last chance to hit it big!

First things first…a check in on the Beer-a-mid

Though this wasn’t our primary reason for the trip, checking on the progress of our “beer-a-mid” let us know how many more cans would need to be emptied to have a perfect structure. You see, we believe goal setting early in the day is the ONLY way to go!

Next – Gambling at The Orleans Casino

One of the “Twenty-something crew” was supposed to fly out in the early afternoon. Without much time for site seeing, we decided to try our luck at a nearby casino called the Orleans. In the afternoon, without very many people there, it seemed sort of blah. That was until Jonny hit for $300 on a slot machine. Hours later, we cashed out and headed back to the VRBO.

  • Jonny and Lydia were up
  • Savanna and Connor were up
  • Mary was up
  • Claire was even
  • and we…lost

A Lunch fit for a King

We had originally planned this grand feast for dinner that evening. But with Mary needing to leave early, we decided to have it for lunch instead. We feasted on steak, mashed potatoes, garlic bread, bacon and asparagus and broccoli. (I’m pretty sure the broccoli was some sort of penance for the decadence of the REST of the food.)

Plan B

The winds continued to pick up through the weekend and were at their worst that Saturday. Mary checked on her flight, she found it was cancelled. Such a terrible sentence to HAVE to stay on vacation with your friends one more day.

Since we lucked in to some extra time, we decided to go to Area 15, an immersive art installation that wasn’t far from our rental home. I was SO excited as I’ve wanted to visit Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart since they announced it’s opening a few years ago. We made our way through the crowds to the door, only to discover their power was out and it was closed. (Wha-wah-wahhhhhhh sad music).

Plan C – At Home Gaming

Since the world seemed to be blowing apart, going back home looked like the best plan. We spent a few hours shooting pool and partaking in competitive beer ponging.

Evening Shenanigans Commence

We had been to the fancy casinos on the Strip and now was the time for the fun casinos on Fremont street. After all, this was our last chance to hit it big.

Now you may remember that one of the biggest reasons we went on this trip was to convince Connor that you should only gamble for fun because NO ONE hits it big. Well, for the first time ever, Stephen and I sort of hit it big. We played 3-Card Poker at three different casinos and won over $2,200.00. We are TRULY poor examples.

Last looks

Our final morning arrived and we were proud of all we accomplished. Look at the symmetry of this structure! Breakfast and lunch was a beggar’s banquet made from every left over we had in the refrigerator!

Let’s Go!

With our fancy Delta plane socks on, we got ready for the final leg of our adventure – the journey home! Much fun was had by all and we decided…that we need to come back again!
