We’re Three Today!

At the Bayshore Marathon in 2022, we made the leap to open this website as a way to share our love for travel with the world. Since then, we’ve been on some CRAZY adventures together and learned a lot along the way. Why not join us as we unpack some of the highlights as we celebrate. We’re three today!! If we were a toddler, we would have our own cake to smash!

The First Place We Wrote About

As you may know, Boston holds a special place in our hearts. Stephen is working to becoming a legacy runner for the Boston Marathon which means we are planning to go back every year until his legs fall off. And they have more Irish bars than Dublin does. Probably. Our very first posts were about our time in Boston and all the WONDERFUL places we uncovered. If you’re planning a trip, be sure to check out our recommendation for the perfect day in Boston.

The Most Visited

If you haven’t noticed, we LOVE New York. No, like FOR REAL!! We LOVE New York and still haven’t been able to see everything we want to see. If you want to see all the best of the city – check out our city guide.

The Farthest Flung

As a day trip from Tokyo we decided to visit the tiny green monks at the Otagi Nenbtusu-ji Temple. We discovered that although it’s not FAR from civilization, you can’t take a train to this location. Nor is it possible to walk to it. Your options are:

  • take a taxi – which is both pricey and not adventurous
  • or take a bus – which only runs hourly by people who do not speak English.

So we opted for the bus, as we are adventurous (ish). And I should mention, the signs FOR the bus are also not in English. It was a risk but it had an amazing payoff. I’m so glad we got to visit! Also, you can follow the temple in real time on Instagram at: otagiji_official. Check out this post for all the best pics.

The BEST Music

To take my mind off upcoming surgery, the mister took me on a dream trip to New Orleans. This was one of our rare trips where NO RUNNING took place. Well, other than running, a bar tab and my mouth, that is. We did a “haunted” walking tour, viewed an iconic cemetery and listened to THE BEST music. I will never forget dancing the night away to the music of Dr. Sick and the Late Greats at the Spotted Cat. You can see what they’re up to on Facebook and you can check out this article to see that entire crazy day, which included a NAKED PARADE. (Don’t worry, we weren’t IN the parade.)

The BEST Food

We talked about it for a while and just COULDN’T arrive on the best place we’d been to eat. So since it was up to me, I chose the best food group. That’s right…OYSTERS! I mean, they’re cool and briny and wonderful. Here’s a collection of just SOME of the oysters we’ve enjoyed the past 3 years.

The Best Bar

This is another one of our hotly debated topics. Since we couldn’t come to a consensus, the person writing the article gets to decide. (Ain’t democracy grand?) All things considered, I think the best bar is The Campbell at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, NY. Why? Well, it has a dark and upscale vibe. The drinks were very well made. It’s actually a secret place you have to know about in order to go there. AND it was featured in the television show, Gotham, which is about Batman. So, you know, super heroes always win.

The Best Trick We Uncovered

We are so happy to share ways to make travel easier. This year, we tried FlightKitt to help us beat jet lag while traveling to and from London. We have so many other bits and bobs that can take the friction out of your next trip. Check out all our recommendations when you have a minute.

What’s Next

In looking at all we’ve learned over the past three years, we’ve decided to focus on the things we do best:

  1. Talk about running
  2. Talk about spooky travel
  3. Share travel tips
  4. Travel the world.

With these goals in mind, we’ve removed all advertisements from our site. We felt the ads were intrusive and to be honest, they didn’t really earn a fraction of what they claimed. Instead, we will move into 2025 sharing our love for travel with you. We have some EPIC things in store including Australia, South Africa and Tanzania. So if you love a good adventure, stick with us! We LOVE that you’re here. You can subscribe to receive our curated newsletter and you can follow us in real time on Instagram at The__Travel__Oracle. Thank you for an amazing three years. We can’t wait to see what’s ahead!
