How to Celebrate and Still Prep for a Marathon

How do you celebrate Easter while prepping for a Marathon? It’s easy if you have a plan. Our plan for this day was less walking, less beer but it would not be a day without adventure!

Stephen went off to do a shake out run with some of the Marathoners near Boston Commons.

I went off to visit one of many churches within walking distance of our studio. I landed at St. Leonard’s because their service time worked really well for our schedule. The exterior was really inauspicious but once you were inside…look out! Their priest was great and very relatable. Also, one of the readings that morning was done only in Italian. I had no idea what was being said, but boy did I like the way they said it!

Where we ate – Unsurprisingly, we were hungry. Again. So we decided to head to James Hook & Co for some of the finest lobster rolls.

Cheapskate tip – If you don’t have a lot of money, lobster will be a splurge but worth it. To save money, you could get two bowls of clam chowder and split one roll. It’ll be more than enough food for two.

Where we went – Next up, the New England Aquarium. I heard someone say before our first trip to Boston that this place is overrated. But then again, we once heard someone say that the Sistine Chapel was underwhelming…while we were IN the Sistine Chapel. So, we’ve decided that some people are really hard to impress.

Cheapskate tip – The tickets weren’t that expensive and they offer a discount to veteran’s.

We could post about 50 amazing images from our time there but here are three really fun ones!

Where we drank – Right across the street was the Granary Tavern so it seemed like as good a time as any to wet our whistles. We each ordered a Wandering Haze Hazy IPA from Cisco Brewers. It’s not as hazy as I prefer but it was still pretty darn tasty.

We headed back to the room so Steve could get his gear together for the next morning. Here is a picture of “Flat Stephen”.

Where we ate – We needed an Italian restaurant that could accommodate 8 diners and were very fortunate to find Basile – Fine Italian Kitchen.

We made the reservation on OpenTable and they were kind to allow us one extra, last minute guest.

We called it an early night in preparation for the BIG DAY of running!
