Boston – The Search for Craft Beer, Lobster and Gelato

With our time quickly drawing to a close, we knew there were just a few more things we needed to find before we left – craft beer, lobster, our friend, Ron, and of course…gelato. I mean, if you’re STAYING in Little Italy and you DON’T have gelato, you could be breaking an important Boston law.

Bunker Hill Monument

The Quest before the Quest

Before embarking on our ultimate quest, we had to take care of some things first.

  1. Pack up our room and stash our luggage
  2. Climb the 294 steps of the Bunker Hill Monument

As you may remember from our tip on our first day, we discovered the Monument is closed for remodeling. So, we took a final stroll around the hill before beginning our next quest…craft beer, a lobster roll and our friend, Ron.

Hungry but not defeated, we headed back to the North End, walking by the Paul Revere monument and the Old North church on our way to Quincy Market

Cheapskate tip – Bunker Hill, the Old North Church and Quincy Market are stops on the Freedom Trail. You can download a map and guide to give yourself a totally free tour.

Where we ate –  This was the first time we were at this market while we were hungry. It was a lot of fun to walk by the vendors in search of our next great meal. We eventually landed on the Wicked Lobsta because, with a name like that, how could we not?

We each got a lobster melt and a bowl of chowder. It was way more food than we should have ordered! But boy, was it tasty!

Low stress tip – If you get to Quincy Market around 11am, you can avoid some of the crowds and actually get a seat at a table. If you wait until noon, you’ll be swimming in a sea of tourists.

The Search for Ron and a Craft Beer

Where we drank – Just outside of Quincy Market, is the new Sam Adams tap room. Its sunny and spacious interior, boasts great views of Faneuil Hall, the Sam Adams statue, and our friend, Ron!

Cheapskate tip – There was a vintage video game machine on site that you could play for free. So if you like Pac Man or Galaga, you could have so much fun for the price of a beer!

And the Ultimate Quest – Gelato

Where we ate – What trip of ours is complete without a gelato stop! Here we are enjoying a delicious couple of scoops from Cafe Paradiso.
